Overview

Buxa Tiger Reserve Forest is located in Alipurduar district, the area of ​​this forest is about 760 square kilometers. Buxa was declared a tiger reserve in 1983 as the 15th tiger reserve of India and got the status of a national park in 1992. The northern border of this forest touches the international border of Bhutan, the eastern border meets Assam and NH-31C passes through this forest. Buxa is rich in biodiversity and has a large collection of rare orchids and medicinal plants.

 

The diversity of mammals in Buxa Tiger Reserve is second among all tiger reserves in India. Apart from the Bengal tiger, this reserve is home to the finest wild animals like leopard, Malayan giant squirrel, mongoose, Asian elephant, python, monitor lizard and various species of land turtles. One of the rarest birds of India, the black-necked stork can be seen in the reserve at the beginning of winter. The authority of Buxa Tiger Reserve organizes bird festival for bird watching and it is one of the famous tourist places in Bengal among wildlife lovers.

 

By Rail: The nearest railway station is Alipurduar Junction which is 37 km away. Rajabhatkhawa is only 15 km from the entrance of the reserve.

 

By Road: The reserve can be reached by taxi, and the NH 31 highway is the fastest way to reach there.

 

By Air: The nearest airport is Bagdogra Airport.
