Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary, located in the vicinity of Gorumara National Park, is one of the famous places in Dooars. Chapramari is basically an extension of Gorumara National Park and is separated by the Murti River. The total area of Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary is 960 hectares. Famous for its large population of elephants, Chapramari was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1998.
The forest is surrounded by shimmering river streams, making it an ideal place to enjoy fishing and boating while traveling in Dooars. The watchtower of Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary is an ideal place to spot native and migratory birds along the river. A wide range of wildlife can be seen in Chapramari which includes elephants, gaur (Indian bison), leopards, spotted deer, chital, sambar and a variety of deer including barking deer, wild boar, etc. If you are lucky you may even spot a one-horned rhinoceros.
By Air: The nearest airport to Chapramari is Bagdogra Airport. After reaching Bagdogra, you need to hire a car to reach Lataguri which is the base of your journey to Chapramari.
By Rail: New Jalpaiguri Railway Station is the nearest railway station connecting Chapramari to major Indian cities and towns. After reaching New Jalpaiguri, you need to hire a car to reach Lataguri which is the base of your journey to Chapramari.
By Road: Chapramari and Lataguri are connected by road to Siliguri and other places in North Bengal. There are many government and private buses and taxis available from Siliguri to Lataguri.
