Furfura Sharif is located in the Serampore subdivision of Hooghly district. This mosque was built in 1375 by the famous Muklish Khan. During the Peer Mela, it becomes a popular site for Muslim pilgrimage. The Muslims of this region were considered to be mainly Ashrafs, descendants of the Muslims who invaded Bengal in the 14th century. The Bagdi king was the ruler of this region at that time and was defeated by Hazrat Shah Kabir Halabi and Hazrat Karamuddin. Although they both died in the war, people of different religions still visit their graves. The most important place within Furfura Sharif is the Mazar Sharif which is the grave of Hazrat Abu Bakar Siddiqui and his five sons known as "Panch Huzoor Kebla". Hazrat Abu Bakar was born in Furfura-Sharif in 1846. He was a social and religious reformer and founded many charitable institutions, orphanages and free health centers. He was also a great educationist who established many madrasas, schools and learning centers. People from different parts of the world come here to get a glimpse of this tomb and know the history of this place. During the Falgun month of the Bengali calendar, thousands of tourists come here to celebrate the Islamic Sayab festival.
By Air: The nearest airport to Furfura Darbar Sharif is Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata. There are plenty of transport options to get Furfura Sharif Darbar.
By Train: The nearset railway station to Furfura Sharif Darbar is Balarambati, which lies in Howrah Burdwan Chord line. There are plenty of local trains from Howrah on regular basis for Balarambati. At Balarambati one can take buses or other mode of transport to reach there.
By Road: From Serampore, Trekkers and buses are available which goes via Furfura Sherif. Buses are also available from Kolkata, Arambagh, Bishnupur and Bankura bound bus goes via Seakhala. One have to get down at Seakhala. At Seakhala plenty of vans are available for Furfura Sharif darbar.
