Overview

The Nizamat Imambara is a Shia Muslim congregation hall based in Murshidabad, West Bengal. It stands parallel to the north face of the Hazarduari Palace. The Imambara was originally built in Nawab Siraj ud-Daulah in 1740 AD. It was rebuilt in 1847 AD by Nawab Mansur Ali Khan after the Imambara was destroyed in the fires of 1842 and 1846. It is the largest Imambara in West Bengal and India. You can see the beautiful architecture of the Imambara from Hazarduari itself as both lie on the same ground.

 

The present Imambara is 680 feet long, whereas the central block has the Madina which is 300 feet long. This Teracotta Mosque in Rajnagar Block was constructed during "Pathan Rule".

 

By Air: The closest airport to Nizamat Imambara, Murshidabad is Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, Kolkata. From there one can take rail route or road to reach there.

 

By Train: The closest junction to Imambara, Murshidabad, is Murshidabad Railway Station, which is well connected to Howrah and Sealdah. There are regular trains available to get to Murshidabad.

 

By Road: Imambara, Murshidabad is well-connected to major places within the state or neighboring states via road network like Kolkata, Burdwan, Rampurhat, Suri, Bolpur, Malda, Krishnagar and Durgapur. West Bengal State Road Transport Corporation (WBSRTC) and some private travel services connects Imambara , Murshidabad with various parts of the state of West Bengal, and cities of nearby states.
