Lava

Lava is a small hamlet town about 33km away from Kalimpong and is surrounded by pine forests and is often engulfed in mists and clouds. It is situated at an altitude of 2,350 meters. The village hosts a beautiful monastery of Bhutanese origin and a Nature Interpretation Centre. This place is popular amongst nature explorers and is renowned for bird watching. It is also the starting point for treks into the Neora Valley National Park, which abounds with floral and faunal wealth.

The route to Lava is scenic with the change in vegetation from tropical deciduous to the wet alpine trees of fir, pine and birch. The lush forests of Lava are ideal for nature treks, bird watching, and plant and wildlife exploration. The Sherpa View Point here provides an excellent view of the snow-crested mountains of Bhutan and Tibet.

By Air: The nearest airport is Bagdogra airport in Siliguri. almost 50 km away from Kalimpong that will take around 2 hours. to reach.

By Train: The nearest railhead is New Jalpaiguri. The rail distance between Kolkata and Siliguri via New Jalpaiguri is 574 km. Both these places are well-connected by rail as several trains ply on this route.

By Road: Distance between Kolkata to Kalimpong is 623 km by Road. From Kolkata via NH12 (North Dinajpur-Kolkata Highway) by Car you can reach at Kalimpong town within 15 hours.
