Nakhoda Masjid

Acknowledged as the largest Masjid in Kolkata, Nakhoda Masjid was built under the benefaction of a dweller of Kutch, Abdar Rahim Osman in 1926. The Masjid has become one of the prime tourist attractions of Kolkata, owing to its sheer size and magnificence. Around 10,000 devotees can perform their prayer, or Namaaz in this splendid Masjid together. The gateway to the Masjid resembles to the Buland Darwaza of Fatehpur Sikri. A fabulous work of art and ornaments can be seen inside the Nakhoda Masjid.

The center of the mosque has three large domes and two main minarets that add to its beauty. The length of the minarets is 151 feet. Apart from this, there are 25 small pillars in the mosque, all of which are almost 100ft tall and give the mosque a majestic look. The architectural pattern of the shrine is a perfect example of the blend of Indian and Saracenic architecture. The walls of the mosque from inside are ornately decorated in golden, orange and brown hues.

By Air: Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International airport is the nearest airport to the place. After landing at the airport one can hire either taxi or auto or take a bus to reach the Nakhoda Masjid.

By Train: Kolkata and Sealdah are the nearest railway station. One can taxi or bus from the railway station to reach Nakhoda Masjid.

By Road: Nakhoda Masjid is located in the central part of Kolkata. It nestles in the Jacquaria Street, close to the junction of Chitpur Road and Mahatma Gandhi Road. National Highway 6 connects Kolkata to other important cities in India. One can also hire a taxi from any part of Kolkata to reach Nakhoda Mosque.
