Birla Mandir in Kolkata is one of the finest artworks in the city. Located on Ashutosh Chowdhury Avenue, Ballygunge Road in South Kolkata, Birla Mandir is synonymous with Kolkata's cultural heritage. The temple was established in 1996 and has been attracting a large number of tourists since then. It was built by the industrialist Birla family and took 26 years to be built. The temple was opened to the public in 1996.
Birla Mandir in Kolkata is a magnificent 20th-century structure made of white marble and cream-coloured sandstone, reflecting Rajasthani architecture. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu deity Lord Krishna and his wife Radha. The style of the temple is a mix of both modern and contemporary art and resembles the Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar. The temple also has spaces for other deities, Shiva, Durga and Shakti.
By Air: Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, Kolkata is the nearest airport at a distance of 21 km from Birla Mandir. One can hire a prepaid taxi or cab (Ola, Uber, etc.) to reach Birla Mandir.
By Rail:- Sealdah Railway Station and Howrah Junction are the nearest railway stations. Ballygunge can be reached by bus and train from Sealdah Station. Rabindra Sadan, Maidan Metro and Kalighat Metro Station are the nearest metro stations. One can hire a taxi or rickshaw from these metro stations to reach the temple complex.
By Road:- The place is well connected by road to Kolkata as well as other parts of the state. One can reach there by taking a bus, taxi or auto-rickshaw from any part of the city.
