By Air: The nearest Airport to Cooch Behar are: Bagdogra Airport in Siliguri: The nearest operational national airport is (142 km from Cooch Behar) of Darjeeling district. The airport is a gateway to Siliguri, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Kurseong, Kalimpong and other North Bengal region. From there, One can take a cab, bus or train to Cooch Behar
By Train: New Cooch Behar Railway Station (3.5 km from the town) is well connected to almost all major Indian cities which is managed by the North Eastern Railways. Alipurduar Junction station is the nearest railway junction station from Cooch Behar (25.4 km from New Cooch Behar station) with connecting trains to major cities of India.
By Road: Two Major Roads are SH12A, NH 31 which run through the District. Headquarters of the North Bengal State Transport Corporation (NBSTC), Cooch Behar is well connected by road. Regular bus service is available that connects Cooch Behar to the neighbouring cities. Apart from government bus service, there are private buses as well, running throughout West Bengal and adjoining states, to and from Cooch Behar.

Rash Mela, which is held in November and December every year is considered to be the most celebrated festival in Cooch Behar. Raas mela starts from the auspicious day of Kartik Purnima according to Bengali calendar. Through this festival, devotes offer their prayers to Lord Krishna and his beloved Radha. This ritual of celebrating the Ras Yatra has been a custom in this area from the times of Royal rule here. It was 1812 when the Koch rulers started this festival in honour of Lord Madan Mohan, a form of Lord Krishna. The fair or mela here is characterized by huge footfalls including visitors from other states and sale of local products majorly handicrafts of the area. Eminent artists across India come to perform at this fair.

Sitalpati from Cooch Behar is a special type of mat used for sitting or hanging on doors and windows during summer to keep the rooms cool. It is made by weaving together the green cane slips of the mutra plants (Maranta dichotoma), indigenous to the region. Barokodali, Ghughumari and Nakkati-Pushnadanga of Cooch Behar district are the most important centers of Sitalpati in West Bengal. The quality of these type of mat is usually judged by its smoothness, glossiness and fineness of mat texture. A museum showcasing various types of Sitalpati has been set up in Ghughumari, a well-known centre for the craft in Cooch Behar district.

Cooch Behar is also famous for producing traditional bamboo and cane handicrafts. Firstly, cane is processed completely to make it insect resistant and waterproof before manufacturing artefacts. Special type of basket and containers like Dhamas and Chalunis are produced from bamboo and cane. Other artefacts include sofa-chairs, tablemats, fruit-trays, bowls, paper-baskets, magazine racks, beautiful flower vases and lampshades.

Bhawaiya is the most popular folk song genre of the Rajbonghsis of North Bengal. In North Bengal, it is mainly prevalent in the vast area spread over Coochbehar, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar districts. The songs are simple in theme and tune, with a carefree spirit and mostly communicating love.

Rajbhansi is a traditional folk dance of Rajbashi Tribe, who are an ethnic group mainly leaving in northern parts of West Bengal. This dance is often performed during special occasion such as festivals and celebrations. Rajbanshi dance is performed to seek blessings from the Teesta river and this dance performance is accompanied by different musical instruments including dhol, flute and cymbals. The dance is usually performed in group with dancers forming circles of lines and moving in sync with music.
