Overview

Gorumara is located in the foothills of the Terai region of the Eastern Himalayas and is rich in forests and grasslands that are home to a diversity of flora and fauna, especially the mighty one-horned Indian rhinoceros. The sanctuary is spread over an area of ​​​​about 80 square kilometers. Gorumara was given the title of a reserve forest in 1895, then in 1949 it was given the status of a wildlife sanctuary and finally in 1994 it got the status of a national park. The Ministry of Environment and Forests also declared Gorumara as one of the best protected areas in India for the year 2009. So, if you are a wildlife lover, you must visit this national park and book a jungle safari to see wild animals up close. By Air: The nearest airport to Bagdogra Gorumara The park can be reached from the railway stations of Siliguri, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar from where one can hire a jeep/car to Lataguri, the entrance of the park via National Highway 31. National Highway 31 which connects Siliguri and Guwahati passes through Lataguri, Chalsa and Nagarkata near the park.

 

By Road: North Bengal State Transport Corporation buses, Bhutan Government buses, minibuses and private buses are available from Siliguri to Alipurduar via Madarihat.
