Overview

Murti Wildlife Sanctuary’s name is derived from the river Murti, which flows down from Kalimpong. It is located on the bank of the river Murti besides Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary and Gorumara National Park. Tourists visit Murti to spend quality time amidst nature in the river and the adjoining forest.

 

West Bengal Forest Development Corporation (WBFDC) promotes it as a tourist destination. Forest department has set up a very beautiful forest bungalow in this place for tourist accommodation. In the river Murti tourist can see Gharials, Elephant, gour (Indian buffalo), different types of Deer and various other natural life creatures are likewise noticeable in this place. The river bed is also a popular picnic destination during the winters.

 

By Rail: Murti can be reached by rail after reaching at the New Mal junction or the New Jalpaiguri junction from where you can hire cars.

 

By Air: The nearest airport is Bagdogra

 

By Road: The National Highway 31 connects Murti to other cities and small towns. The distance of Murti from Siliguri is 73 km while from New Mal it is 18 km. From Chalsa it is only 8 kilometers which hardly takes a half an hour drive.
