Overview
Hazarduari Palace which literally means a ‘palace with a thousand doors’ has been built in 1837 by Duncan McLeod for the Nawab Nazim Humayun Jah, a descendant of Mir Zafar. Out of the 1000 doors – 900 are real! The idea was to confuse dacoits with real and fake doors to such an extent that they will get lost while the Nawab’s guards reach the spot to catch them. The palace also has 114 rooms and 8 galleries. It has now been converted to a museum and has an exquisite collection of armor, splendid paintings, exhaustive portraits of the Nawabs, beautiful works of ivory from China and many other valuable works of art.
