Overview

Midnapore was divided into Paschim Medinipur and Purba Medinipur on January 1, 2002. Both Paschim and Purba Medinipur have a rich blend of cultural diversities because of its tribal and non-tribal communities. Different festivals like Baha, Sohorai, Bhadu and Tusu are celebrated with great vigor in this region. Glove puppetry or Beni Putul Naach is still a tradition in the village of Padmatamil in Paschim Medinipur. Patachitra scroll paintings, cane and bamboo basketry, terracotta pottery, Masland mat weaving and dokra art are some of the well-known art forms from this region.

By Air: The nearest International Airport is Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport which is 137 km away from the airport.

By Train: It has its own Railway Station named as Midnapore Railway Station which is well connected to all the major cities of West Bengal

By Road: Medinipur is connected through West Bengal State Bus services and private Bengal State Bus services to the rest of West Bengal
